What's interesting to me this week......

Vermi-Composting...Vermi-composting is composting with the use for worms. Specifically, Red worms. They can eat their own weight in kitchen scraps everyday. Basically What you do is get a box with some air and drainage holes in it. Fill it with wet shredded newspaper or cardboard. Put in some red worms and start burying you kitchen scraps at different places in the box. The Worms will eat you scraps and paper and turn them into dirt. Pretty cool. For more in for. Hand Launch Gliders...I was introduced to hand launch at Rancho San Antonio By John MacDougal in 1989. I didn't really know what I was doing but I built a plane and learned to Fly. I never really thermaled out with that first plane but I learned about aerodynamics. I dabble with the hobby on and off until 1994. That is when I bought a $16 kit built it and started to fly again over a Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino California. This was the worst flying plane that I had owned yet. In the midst of all my crashing I saw two other flyers with hand launch gliders that made mine look like a brick. These tow guys were giving there plane a little toss and taking them up in thermals to a 1000 feet!!!! This is what I wanted. I humbled myself and started talking to these two guys. One of the guys was from Issaquah, WA, Phil Pearson and the other 72 yr old Art Dent from Los Altos, CA. I think Art had been flying out at Rancho San Antonio before it was a park and maybe before I was born. Both Phil and Art were some of the best hand launch pilots on the West coast and Phil has proved it in some competitions. Phil is also an extremely accomplished designer and master builder. Phil is your basic Mr. Wizard with more knowledge in that head of his than any one human should have. Maybe I will dedicate a page to Phil and all his many talents in up coming Website revisions. With Phil's guidance I managed to design and Scratch build and 11oz 420sq.in. wing area plane that I called "The Putz". I named it "Then Putz" because I wanted to putz around the sky like Phil and Art. My Putz was a success after many long distance calls to Phil in Washington. For in fo on some lunch time flyers in the Cupertino area check out The Skyfishers.

Koi Ponds...I've fond myself wanting to install a Koi Pond lately. But since we are renting it doesn't seem like the most practical thing to do. For info on building your own pond check out Pete'Pond Page.

Radio Control Car Racing...Before we had left the nay area I had come quite the avid RC car racer. I have located a few places to race up here in Washington, but I haven't found the box with my cars in it. For more info about racing in the San Jose area check out my favorite hobby store Castle Hobbies. Tell them I sent you.
